A ream is 500 sheets. Each sheet breaks down to 4 postcards. So a ream contains 2,000 postcards.

I originally sold a "box" of bills. The box contained 500 sheets of paper, 2,000 postcards. If the customer ordered 2 boxes, each box was shipped seperately. The shipping charges quickly taught us that shipping 2 12 pound boxes cost much more than shipping one 24 pound box. All of a sudden we had a box of 500, a box of 1000 and a box of 1500. There got to be confusion as to what quantity a box was. So we adopted the paper business standard quantity "ream".
